26 weeks pregnant

Today we are 26 weeks or 6 months pregnant.

I can’t believe we are three quarters of the way through already! It is going so quickly. I only have 5 more weeks at work before I start having Fridays off, then another 5 weeks until I finish work for maternity leave. I cannot wait!

I had my whooping cough, rubella and polio vaccine on Thursday morning. It is just a childs vaccine, but it will pass through the placenta to our cub and protect it until it can have its own vaccines at 8 weeks old. I don’t mind having injections at all, but I feel like I have been punched in the arm. Ouch!

In other news, our Ickle Bubba travel system arrived last week, and we went over to put it together and have a play yesterday and it seems really great. We need to spend a bit more time practicing changing the bits around and collapsing it down.

How pregnant: 26 weeks or 6 months!

How feeling: Great. The puking seems to have gone again.

Any symptoms: Massive bump, and muscle aches. I can feel that I have split abdominal muscles already (diastis recti) so I need to be careful when getting out of bed etc so as not to put pressure on my abs. There are special exercises to do after birth to help reduce the gap again, so I am researching feverishly!

Any cravings: Smoked salmon and egg stotties. Mmmm.

Weight gain: Down 2lbs from last week, 11lbs up from starting weight.

Waist measurement: 33″

Bump measurement: 35.5″. 1″ less than last week. I think it depends on how the baby is laying.

Maternity clothes: Nothing new.

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: The start of the 3rd trimester at the end of next week.

25 weeks pregnant

Today we are 25 weeks pregnant.

It has been an exciting week for cub Collins. On Wednesday I had my 25 week appointment with the midwife. It all went well: my blood pressure is fine, the urine dip was clear and she said that I am doing well growth wise. I got to hear the heartbeat again too,  which was great. I thought that she might measure my fundal height, but that starts at my 28 week appointment.

My NVP also made a bit of a nasty come back on Thursday and Friday this week. Explosive is the only way to describe it. Heaving when your abdominal muscles have split is a bit scary… I thought my guts were going to erupt out of my navel. Yuck.

On a nicer note, we ordered and received our cloth nappies and baby sling! We opted for LittleLamb bamboo nappies as they are so cute and get rave reviews:

They are so squishy and come with really bright and fun bombproof wraps. I need to start washing them a few times before the cub arrives to put the bombproof aspect to the test.

We went for a CuddleBug sling in a nice grey colour:

I will need to practice with this to get the tensioning correct!

How pregnant: 25 weeks.

How feeling: Feeling good, apart from the explosive vomiting.

Any symptoms: Massive bump, NVP and muscle spasms.

Any cravings: Cadbury’s dairy milk.

Weight gain: Up 13bs from starting weight.

Waist measurement: 33.5″

Bump measurement: 36.5″. This varies so much!

Maternity clothes: Nothing new.

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: Our pram arriving on Thursday!

24 Weeks Pregnant

            Excuse the bunny slippers…

Today we are 24 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I had a secret little celebration in my head yesterday as I passed the 24 week ‘viability’ milestone. In the UK, unless the hospital has a specialist premature baby unity, it will not try to nurture a baby born before 24 weeks, because the chances are so slim. At least now, I know that if the unthinkable should happen and I go into labour, the doctors and nurses will do everything they can to keep our cub alive.

This thought became all to real yesterday when a lady on my October birth month forum on Baby Centre had her baby at exactly 24 weeks. He is in the special care baby unit, but doing well considering he is only half baked!

Here’s hoping our cub stays put until at least 38 weeks.

We ordered our pram this morning too, which along with the cot, is making this whole baby thing feel very real! My Mum and Step Dad have very generously offered to pay, and we are having it delivered to their house too. That should keep my Nan happy, who is a stickler for old wives tales and superstition.

We decided to go for an Ickle Bubba Stomp V3 as it is a complete travel system, it is great value and gets really good reviews. It looks good too! I will do more of a review once it arrives.

How pregnant: 24 weeks.

How feeling: Feeling good, but still getting cramps in my abs.

Any symptoms: The NVP put in a cameo appearance one morning this week, which was fun.

Any cravings: Fresh fruit and mint water.

Weight gain: Up 12bs from starting weight.

Waist measurement: 33″

Bump measurement: 37.5″.

Maternity clothes: Nothing new.

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: 25 week midwife appt on Wednesday. Time to see if this cub is still on track size wise.

23 weeks pregnant

Today we are 23 weeks and 4 days pregnant.

For some reason it was a struggle to fit blog writing in over the last weekend, so sorry for the delay everyone. We had to take this photo on the way out the front door before work this morning, hence the actual normal clothes and make up!

The cub has been very active this week, kicking and punching on the two opposite sides of my bump at the same time. It is a reminder of how big it is getting… In my head it is still the size of an egg, but it is over 30cm long now. One morning last week it did a complete flip over. It was feet up, but then it slowly and really weirdly turned to be head up. We could even make out where the head was! It felt a bit like G force on your insides when you are on a steep rollercoaster. I wouldn’t say it was pleasant.

I think we have made a decision on which pram to get too, so hopefully we can get that ordered in the next few weeks. Right, I’m off to enjoy the sunshine. Woooo!

How pregnant: 23 weeks.

How feeling: Still feeling great. Hot, but great.

Any symptoms: Trials for Cirque du Soleil in my womb.

Any cravings: Still loving shreddies, and fresh berries. Mmmm.

Weight gain: Up 10-11bs from starting weight. Getting heavy now! :s

Waist measurement: 32″

Bump measurement: 37″.

Maternity clothes: Nothing new, but I am digging out all of my ‘real clothes’ that I can still wear. The skirt and top above are both not maternity, but stretchy/ roomy enough to fit over the bump.

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: 25 week midwife appt next Wednesday. They will start to measure my fundal height to determine if the baby is growing at the right speed.
