28 weeks pregnant.

Today we are 28 weeks and 1 day pregnant. We are now officially in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Eeeeeek!

This week has been quite a quiet week again in terms of pregger stuff. I went for my 28 week blood test on Friday afternoon which will recheck my bloodgroup, rhesus factor, iron levels and glucose levels. These results should hopefully be back in time for my appointment with the midwife next Wednesday.

In other news, I have been looking into launching my own brand of baby clothes, made with fabrics printed with my own designs. I have found two possible printers to produce my fabric and whenever I have a spare minute I am print designing and pattern cutting. My first sample garment was a cute pair of baby leggings which are fully lined and have roll back cuffs. I will have to wait until I have a model for these before I can start working on the fit, but that should happen around the end of September, early October. 🙂

Right, i’m off on the treadmill for 20 mins.

How pregnant: 28 weeks. Third trimester, wooo!

How feeling: I feel like the glow may have passed now. I am feeling tired a lot of the time again and things like putting on socks and getting out of the bath are starting to get more taxing.

Any symptoms: I am still getting a few mornings of vomiting each week. On Thursday morning I had a return of the bile pukes, which exhausted me. Oh, and the wind! My God! I blame the cub. #sorrynotsorry

Any cravings: Mint water again.

Weight gain: I have finally hit the stone. It is suggested that for my pre pregger BMI of 20.1, I should gain between 25 and 35lbs, so hopefully I will be in this region by 40 weeks.

Waist measurement: 33″

Bump measurement: 36.5″

Maternity clothes: Nothing new.

Belly button: Borderline outie…

Looking forward to: A week off work this week! I am going to get things organised. I will pack a basic hospital bag and start washing the nappies and baby clothes and bedding. I also hope to do pregnancy yoga on Tuesday evening which I usually can’t get home in time for, and maybe some aqua fit.

27 weeks pregnant

Today we are 27 weeks and 1 day pregnant.

Not a lot has happened in pregger land this week. There have been no appointments or scans, and no more exciting deliveries. The cub has been incredibly active this week, constantly wriggling and kicking and flipping and turning. It is such a lovely feeling.

The morning vomit sessions have plagued me a few times in the last week. Not fun. I can’t wait until vomiting returns to a very occasional event.

There is confusion as to when the 3rd trimester of pregnancy begins. Everything I read has a differing opinion, ranging from 25 weeks, up to 30 weeks. The general agreement however, seems to be at about 27-28 weeks. At week 27 our little cub has an 85% chance of survival if it should make an unexpected early arrival.

I mentioned in my last post that I was looking forward to going on maternity leave at the start of September. Unfortunately, my work is going through a very turbulent time and I am not convinced it will be able to continue for much longer. Although I have qualified for Statutory Maternity Allowance (the 1st 6 weeks at 90% pay and then £139 per week for 32 weeks), if my company goes into administration or receivership, I will not receive it. I will be able to claim Maternity Allowance from the government, which is also £139 per week, but I will miss out on the first 6 weeks at 90% pay. I have put in a request with work to go on maternity leave a month earlier, which will hopefully allow me to receive what I am entitled to before the business implodes. I will miss out on a month of wages, but I will hopefully get the 6 weeks 90%…. Eugh, it is a confusing gamble. I don’t need this stress.

How pregnant: 27 weeks.

How feeling: Good. I’m starting to feel tired again now though. The cub is getting heavier and my muscles are aching by the end of the day.

Any symptoms: Puking and tiredness.

Any cravings: Mango chutney… Mmmmm.

Weight gain: Up 2lb on last week. 13lbs up from starting weight.

Waist measurement: 33.4″

Bump measurement: 37.5″

Maternity clothes: A lot of my pre pregnancy clothes are getting a bit snug now. I might need to get a few more tops to get me through the last few months.

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: Blood tests next Friday to check that everything is ok. I luckily don’t need to do the ‘Lucozade’ test for gestational diabetes as I have no family history of it, no cultural triggers or high BMI.

25 weeks pregnant

Today we are 25 weeks pregnant.

It has been an exciting week for cub Collins. On Wednesday I had my 25 week appointment with the midwife. It all went well: my blood pressure is fine, the urine dip was clear and she said that I am doing well growth wise. I got to hear the heartbeat again too,  which was great. I thought that she might measure my fundal height, but that starts at my 28 week appointment.

My NVP also made a bit of a nasty come back on Thursday and Friday this week. Explosive is the only way to describe it. Heaving when your abdominal muscles have split is a bit scary… I thought my guts were going to erupt out of my navel. Yuck.

On a nicer note, we ordered and received our cloth nappies and baby sling! We opted for LittleLamb bamboo nappies as they are so cute and get rave reviews:

They are so squishy and come with really bright and fun bombproof wraps. I need to start washing them a few times before the cub arrives to put the bombproof aspect to the test.

We went for a CuddleBug sling in a nice grey colour:

I will need to practice with this to get the tensioning correct!

How pregnant: 25 weeks.

How feeling: Feeling good, apart from the explosive vomiting.

Any symptoms: Massive bump, NVP and muscle spasms.

Any cravings: Cadbury’s dairy milk.

Weight gain: Up 13bs from starting weight.

Waist measurement: 33.5″

Bump measurement: 36.5″. This varies so much!

Maternity clothes: Nothing new.

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: Our pram arriving on Thursday!

24 Weeks Pregnant

            Excuse the bunny slippers…

Today we are 24 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I had a secret little celebration in my head yesterday as I passed the 24 week ‘viability’ milestone. In the UK, unless the hospital has a specialist premature baby unity, it will not try to nurture a baby born before 24 weeks, because the chances are so slim. At least now, I know that if the unthinkable should happen and I go into labour, the doctors and nurses will do everything they can to keep our cub alive.

This thought became all to real yesterday when a lady on my October birth month forum on Baby Centre had her baby at exactly 24 weeks. He is in the special care baby unit, but doing well considering he is only half baked!

Here’s hoping our cub stays put until at least 38 weeks.

We ordered our pram this morning too, which along with the cot, is making this whole baby thing feel very real! My Mum and Step Dad have very generously offered to pay, and we are having it delivered to their house too. That should keep my Nan happy, who is a stickler for old wives tales and superstition.

We decided to go for an Ickle Bubba Stomp V3 as it is a complete travel system, it is great value and gets really good reviews. It looks good too! I will do more of a review once it arrives.

How pregnant: 24 weeks.

How feeling: Feeling good, but still getting cramps in my abs.

Any symptoms: The NVP put in a cameo appearance one morning this week, which was fun.

Any cravings: Fresh fruit and mint water.

Weight gain: Up 12bs from starting weight.

Waist measurement: 33″

Bump measurement: 37.5″.

Maternity clothes: Nothing new.

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: 25 week midwife appt on Wednesday. Time to see if this cub is still on track size wise.

19 weeks pregnant

Today we are 19 weeks and 1 day pregnant.

My kidney infection cleared up nicely and I am now off the antibiotics, which is great as they were the size of horse tablets. Also, the sickness that I hoped had started to go away returned with full force at the start of last week… I hit a new record of puking 5 times in 1 day! Wooo.

Having said that, the nausea does seem to be easing off a bit now, so hopefully it will fizzle out soon. I few people have even said I look good; one person even said ‘glowing’. I think the pregnancy glow may be just returning to looking normal and healthy after weeks of looking grey and haggard.

Still no movements that I can pin down as being the cub. There are always ‘wind or cub’ moments, but I can never be sure. We will find out the location of the placenta on Friday at the scan, so that will tell me how much I should be feeling.

How pregnant: 19 weeks

How feeling: Almost back to normal.

Any symptoms: Sickness and vomit.

Any cravings: Nope.

Weight gain: About 7lbs up from starting weight.

Waist measurement: 30″

Bump measurement: 35″ I seem to have shrunk a little.

Maternity clothes: A few great new pieces, including a leopard print dress which makes me look really pregnant!

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: Our scan is on Friday morning! Eeeek! We can’t wait to see the cub again.

18 weeks pregnant

Today we are 18 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I feel as if my belly has really grown this week. Everyone at work commented that my belly has now popped out, and I can no longer pull in my abs and look normal. I quickly measured my waist at work on Thursday and I had grown an inch and a half in 4 days!

On Sunday night I woke up in exquisite pain in my right flank. At first I thought I had trapped a nerve as we had finally brought the excersise ball into the living room for me to sit on instead of the sofa, to try and relieve my abdominal cramps. I had been rolling around on it and stretching my spine out, so I thought that maybe I had done myself a mischief.

However, the pain kept pulsing in waves, almost like contractions, and no matter what I did, I couldn’t relieve the pain. It felt like I was being stabbed in the kidney and I was climbing the walls in distress. If it had carried on for more than the 15 mins in lasted, we were going to have to go to A&E. Luckily, the pain subsided and I managed to get back to sleep.

My kidney ached the following day so I decided to get an appointment to see a doctor. Having experienced full blown kidney infections before, I didn’t want to get to that stage again, especially now that my pain relief options are limited. I took along a urine sample and I had 3 out of 3 triggers for a kidney infection. Yay. A week of antibiotics for me.

How pregnant: 18 weeks

How feeling: Generally much better. Apart from the kidney infection, I haven’t been sick since Thursday morning. Wooo!

Any symptoms: A growing bump.

Any cravings: Nope.

Weight gain: 6lbs up from starting weight. No change.

Waist measurement: 30.5″

Bump measurement: 37″

Maternity clothes: Nothing new.

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: Our 20 week scan in a few weeks.

17 weeks pregnant

Today we are 17 weeks and 1 day pregnant.

On Wednesday we went for our 16 week check with the midwife. It all went well and as I hoped, we finally got to hear our baby’s heartbeat! It was so exciting. The midwife also had a feel of my belly, and told me to expect to start feeling movements in the next few weeks. I won’t see her again until week 25 now, but that time will fly by.

I am feeling a lot better in general this week, although I am still throwing up once or twice a day. Sometimes it is so forceful that I struggle to breath. It is horrible.

Exciting news at work this week too. My maternity leave has been scheduled into the critical path (the big, scary looking production plan) and I have 19 weeks left, but only 15 more Mondays! Woooooo!

How pregnant: 17 weeks

How feeling: More lively, but the sickness is still here.

Any symptoms: Still the sickness.

Any cravings: Cucumbers.

Weight gain: 6lbs up from starting weight.

Waist measurement: 29″

Bump measurement: 36″

Maternity clothes: I need to get myself a few more pairs of black maternity jeans.

Who knows: Everyone.

Looking forward to: My bump growing and starting to feel punches and kicks from the inside.
